What is celebrated on Good Friday?
Today the entire Catholic Church joins in penance, abstinence and fasting to commemorate the passion of the Lord. Among the activities of this day are the Via Crucis, the sermon of the seven words of the Lord Jesus on the cross; processions with the image of Christ and his painful mother, among others. This day the Church does not celebrate the Eucharist and no sacrament, except for the reconciliation and anointing of the sick.
Instead of the Eucharistic celebration a liturgical celebration is held that commemorates the death of the Lord. In the celebration of the word, the passion is deepened according to San Juan that concludes with the worship of the cross and with the Eucharistic communion, consecrated on Holy Thursday. Today, a small commemoration of the Virgin Mary, the painful mother, who was at the foot of the cross.
On Good Friday we celebrate the passion and death of Jesus Christ. "We celebrate the death of Jesus, who has died for each of us and for all humanity to reconcile with the Father." On this day the extreme love of Christ is commemorated to rescue us.
It is important to internalize the fact that Jesus delivered on the cross for each of us. And we must understand that the cross is a sign of victory over death, especially that it is a victory over sin.
With his sacrifice, Christ paid the price that humanity had to pay for his sins. Therefore, on this day we need to meditate, think and feel about the meaning of the passion and death of Jesus Christ. One of the attitudes that the Christian must have during Good Friday is reflection because we will understand and deepen in the sense of the death of Christ. On the other hand, we must join the duel for the death of Jesus Christ with the Church. ”We must make the feelings of the Church own”.
