Cities are getting hotter and hotter. Some have already reached 50°C, these are dangerous levels of heat and the vast majority are not yet ready. Extreme heat contributes to numerous deaths each year. It can make schools, transportation systems, homes, and public spaces unsafe during the hottest hours of the day. It is also increasing energy demand and deepening existing inequalities...
These are data to take into account and concerns that are very aligned with the activity of the Church that was recently presented by the Observatory for the Environment:the instrument developed by the Pontifical Academy of Theology (PATH) on the contribution of digital technologies to the environment. The president of the PATH assured in his opening that: "We work for a sustainable, ethical use of digital and attentive to the dignity of the human person. Only in this way can innovation become an ally of the custody of creation and promoter of a peaceful, fair and supportive coexistence."
In line with the teaching and Doctrine of the Church
Pope Francis' dream was that the encyclical Laudato si ' will not remain a dead letter and, in fact, year after year, it has become the driving force of countless initiatives and good practices. The Observatory is certainly one of them and is part of the teaching of the Church.
