On Thursday, September 22, the Holy See published the Statute of the Secretariat for Communication, which entered into force on October 1 and seeks to “respond to the current communicative context.” This Dicasterio will gather the management of the Pontifical Council of Social Communications; The press room of the Holy See, the Vatican Internet service, the Vatican Radio, the Vatican television center, L’Esservatore Romano, the Vatican Typography, the photographic service and the Vatican editor bookstore.
The provisions ask the Secretariat "to unify all the communication entities of the Holy See so that the entire system responds in a coherent way to the needs of the Evangelizing Mission of the Church."
The new body is made up of a council of 12 personas, chaired by the Prefect, Mons. Darío Eduardo Viganò; the secretary, Mons. Lucio Adrián Ruiz; and the 5 directors and 5 deputy directors of each direction in which the Dicastery has been divided.
The Secretariat has been divided into these 5 directions: General Affairs Directorate, Editorial Directorate, Directorate of the Press Office of the Holy See, Technological Directorate and Theological-Pastoral Directorate.Likewise, the statute indicates that the new entity will take over "of the institutional website of the Holy See and the presence of the Roman Pontiff."
A point that highlights the statute is that all council members must be appointed directly by the Holy Father and will remain in office for a period of five years.
