It will be a day of prayer and fasting in which all believers in the world, regardless of their religion, will unite to ask God the Creator to protect humanity affected by the coronavirus pandemic. This is an initiative promoted by the High Committee for Human Brotherhood and joined by Pope Francis.
The High Committee for Human Fraternity invites all believers in the world to participate this May 14, regardless of the religion they profess, in a Day of prayer, fasting and supplication asking God to protect humanity against the coronavirus.
In this way, the Committee established last August in order to achieve the objectives of the "Document on Human Fraternity" signed on February 4, 2019 by Pope Francis and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmed al-Tayyeb; encourages all religious leaders and believers to unite in a common supplication to invoke, with one voice, God's help to preserve humanity, "help it overcome the pandemic, restore security, stability, health and prosperity, and make our world, once this pandemic is eliminated, "more humane and more fraternal."
The Holy Father joins the prayer on May 14
Pope Francis also joined the initiative of the High Committee for Human Fraternity with this message delivered on Sunday, May 3, at the time of the Regina Coeli prayer streaming from the Vatican Apostolic Library.
"And since prayer is a universal value, I have accepted the proposal of the High Committee for Human Fraternity that on May 14, believers of all religions unite spiritually in a day of prayer, fasting and works of charity, to implore God to help humanity overcome the coronavirus pandemic. Remember: on May 14, all believers together, believers of different traditions, to pray, fast and do works of charity"
For his part, the President of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue, Cardinal Miguel Ángel Ayuso Guixot, commenting on the Pope's willingness to accept the proposal of the High Committee, pointed out that this pandemic is an opportunity to root the value of fraternity and common coexistence in our future.
“It is good that based on the faith of religious leaders, through groups and those responsible for social and political life, there is a moment of prayer and solidarity to invoke the end of this pandemic”
