OCTOBER 2019. EXTRAORDINARY MISSIONARY MONTH

2019 marks 100 years since the Apostolic Letter Maximum Illud of Pope Benedict XV. To celebrate this centenary, Pope Francis has called for an Extraordinary Missionary Month (EMM) in October 2019. With it, the Holy Father wants to awaken awareness of the mission ad gentes and resume with new impetus the responsibility of proclaiming the Gospel of all the baptized.

“It is my intention to promote an Extraordinary Missionary Month in October 2019, in order to fuel the ardor of the evangelizing activity of the Church ad gentes,” said Pope Francis at the Angelus on Sunday, October 22, coinciding with World Mission Day 2017. Later, at the Assembly of the Pontifical Mission Societies, he gave the keys to what the MME will be.

The Extraordinary Missionary Month wants to revive missionary consciousness and remind us that we live in a permanent state of mission. The Pontifical Mission Societies (PMO) are responsible for preparing and promoting the Extraordinary Missionary Month. There is information and resources at this link.
