The Dicasterio for the Integral Human Promotion of the person proposes us as the topic for the world day of the patient of February 11: "Come to me all who are tired and overwhelmed, and I will relieve you" (Mt 11, 28). In Spain, welcoming this issue, «we propose to look at one of the causes of that fatigue that ask to be relieved: loneliness. Just by taking a view to the solitude data we realize that it has the dimensions of an authentic epidemic. According to the National Statistics Institute, it is estimated that in Spain there are 4.7 million unipersonal homes. Two million people over 65 live alone. More than 850.00 over 80 years live alone and many have mobility problems. Only these figures are a worrying fact. If we also add, among other forms of loneliness, that of those who are admitted to hospitals or that of families with members with a serious mental illness, for example, we discover the pressing of reflecting to seek the way of relieving so much loneliness, ”explains the presentation of materials.
