During a mass celebrated in the Vatican on the occasion of the Jubilee of Deacons, Francis assured that "the servant (of God) knows how to open the doors of his time and his spaces to those who are close and also to those who call out of hours."

"Me sienta mal cuando veo horarios en las parroquias, 'de esta hora a esta hora', y después no se abre la puerta, no hay sacerdote, no hay diácono, no hay laico que reciba a la gente''.

''Omitid los horarios", dijo ante los fieles que asistieron al evento en la Plaza de San Pedro del Vaticano.

In his homily, Pope Francis referred to deacons to remind them of their "vocation as ministers of charity" and to maintain that the good deacon is one who is "meek at heart" and who is available at all times to care for others.

"The servant learns every day to renounce having everything for himself and to dispose of himself as he wants. If he practices every morning in giving his life, in thinking that all his days will not be his, but will be to live as a gift of self," he stressed.

"He who serves is not a jealous guardian of his own time, but rather renounces being the owner of his own day," he added.
