Dr. José Gregorio Hernández: The doctor of the poor
Today we remember the life lessons of a true teacher, academic Dr. José Gregorio Hernández Cisneros born in the town of Isnotu, Trujillo State, on October 26, 1864, authentic citizen, exemplary Christian, scientist and server of the poor for love of love Jesus and his gospel. That man who, for his humility was oblivious to all recognition and honor, the one who did not even claim the just reward to his work and merits, to this venerable academic, who never imagined that his life would be appreciated and remembered by many generations and that so many tributes would be taken.
And even less, that characters from all social spheres such as: Men of the Church, politics, science, arts, country and city workers, Catholics and non -Catholics, Venezuelans and foreigners, would recognize their beautiful mission and record this, in many different ways.
Hernández, traveled by Venezuela as one of the founders of the National Academy of Medicine, preached with his wisdom and with his example, and that, over the years he is present in the life of Venezuelans and foreigners; and that today it seems to want to be present in this homeland attracted by so many political, economic and social problems.
Its presence remains present in our people. That is why on Saturday, October 31, the Conceptionist Sisters M. Mariana Guinand, Superior Provincial, M. Ángeles Miguélez and Dharian of the poor and apostle of peace as a previous step to the beatification ceremony for next year.
The Clausura took place in the Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria sanctuary, in Caracas where their remains rest after being for a long time in the Southern General Cemetery. At 10 am. The ceremony began, chaired by Cardinal Baltazar Porras, Archbishop of Mérida and Apostolic Administrator of Caracas.
Religious songs and pieces of Venezuelan authors accompanied this act that aroused reactions of true emotion among those present. Representatives of the Episcopal Conference, from different sectors of the country, were attended, in addition to representatives of several Venezuela headquarters. The presence of the Yaxury Solórzano Ortega girl was highlighted, who according to the Vatican received "an alleged miracle worked by the intercession" by José Gregorio Hernández, a recognition that placed the so -called "doctor of the poor" one step away from holiness. The miracle attributed to Hernández happened in March 2017, when the girl was 10 years old and was the victim of a bullet impact on an attempt to robbed the Guárico state. The medical forecast his parents received was that he would hardly survive and that if he made him lose faculties. After being operated, Yaxury managed to walk, see and speak in a healing that José Gregorio Hernández is given.
We thank God for this good news for the Church at such critical moments of humanity and our country. We continue to pray that José Gregorio continues to intercede for our Venezuelan people and grant us the democracy that we long for and we can live in a more supportive, fair and fraternal country in which human dignity is respected.
Venezuela walks with José Gregorio Hernández!
