Once again the Passover of the Lord comes to meet us. To prepare us to receive it, God's Providence offers us Lent each year, the "sacramental sign of our conversion"[1], which announces and makes possible the possibility of returning to the Lord with all our hearts and with all our lives.

Like every year, with this message I want to help the whole Church to live with joy and truth this time of grace; and I do so inspired by an expression of Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew: «As wickedness grows, love will grow cold in the majority» (24,12).

This phrase is found in the speech that speaks of the end of time and that is set in Jerusalem, on the Mount of Olives, precisely there where the passion of the Lord will begin. Jesus, responding to a question from his disciples, announces a great tribulation and describes the situation in which the community of the faithful could find itself: faced with painful events, some false prophets will deceive many people to the point of threatening to extinguish charity in hearts , which is the center of the entire Gospel.
