The day of voluntary fasting is always celebrated on the Friday before the second Sunday of February, this year on February 10, 2023. Since the second Sunday of February is celebrated on the day of the National Day of United Hands (February 12, 2023 .)
We are all invited to live this experience: all of us, of any age, condition or social level, region or country
of belonging. The day is a moment to become aware of the inequality that we live on the planet. It is a time that we can also take advantage of as sentence.
Proposal for the day
Manos Unidas invites us to be aware of the great inequality of life among those of us who share the world, despite the fact that we all have the same skin, a beating heart and are the image of the same God.
We all say that we recognize the equal dignity of all human beings; but it really is not like that: 800 million people see that dignity seriously violated due to the deplorable living conditions due to their poverty.
Jesus teaches us: do good to your neighbor by always defending life. We have to take care of our own life and that of our
similar, a concrete way can be: feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, visit the sick, create work, etc.
The solidarity It is a requirement of our shared human dignity, and the duty that each human being, according to their circumstances, be responsible for all others.
Out of solidarity, each one must assume the causes of the other, making them their own causes.
The responsibility to care for each other has implications both between us and distant depressed communities, and between the communities themselves. It means putting “we” before a myopic logic of private interest; giving up personally or sacrificing ourselves for the collective good and making available to others the necessary resources to improve the living conditions of the most disadvantaged communities.
It is time to commit to building a world where no one is left behind and hunger becomes a sad memory of the past.
